MARTIN IS HOPEFUL, IF WORRIED

Martin worked at the Honda plant. He was laid off shortly after the closure was announced. While he was lucky to find another job immediately, he recognizes that that isn't the case for everyone.

"Obviously it's a shock for a lot of people," he said.

He thinks the closure will have a big effect on the city. He mentions that a lot of the stores in the city center will probably have to close down due to peoples incomes taking a hit.

"They're not going to find anything as well paid as Honda," he said, referencing the low level of skill with most of the workers.

He is hopeful, though, that another industry will come along - as was the case with Honda in the 1980's when the railway industry left the city. Back then, Honda came in to save the day and the city has grown ever since.

"We've got plenty of land here to build on. The Honda plant can be built on, so hopefully something can come along," he said.
